Abstract

The Galeria Pio X is a building that is present in the urban structure of the mining city of Juiz de Fora since the year 1924. Its historical relevance is due to the pioneering of its construction and the incentive that it represented for the reproduction of the typology of the galleries, which became an identity aspect of the city. Methodologically the building is observed as an architectural event, considering the technical, social, commercial and economic aspects related to it, as well as the subjects that participated in its history. In this way, the approach that deals with a transforming element of the public space, and the memory that involves the construction of such property, allow us to perceive the changes of thought and of sociabilities that the individuals passed and provided when dealing with constructive new positions in the modernity. Also the recognition of the building as patrimony of the municipality, allows the dialogue of how the dimensions of preservation were placed through the instrument of tipping and registration, linked to the Galeria Pio X and the Midday Whistle, the first good of immaterial nature of Judge out.
