Sociedade de Medicina e Cirurgia de Juiz de Fora: escolarização e educação physica (1889 – 1911)

Abstract

The objective of this assignment is to analyse the representations about Education and Physical Education that circulated in the extent of the speeches produced by the agents associated to the Sociedade de Medicina e Cirurgia de Juiz de Fora (SMCJF) from 1889, year of its foundation, to the first decade of the twentieth century. In this period, the SMCJF participated from an articulated movement, principally by the doctors, that proposed to renovate the life and the social practices turning them more hygienic, health and moderns. The resources used for our reflections were the bulletins published by the SMCJF from 1889 to 1909; the Medicine Magazines from Minas; the work Cidade Salubre (1911); correspondences; documents; speeches and reports of directors and inspectors; telegrams; minutes of reading meetings from School Groups; minutes of exams and promotions; articles about the Jornal do Commercio. The reflections about these documents were made to the light of the proposals and questions made by Peter Burke and Le Goff and have made them true through the documental analysis. We believe that such study is related to the nowadays discussions for lifting up questions concerning to the production of speeches that have influenced the education at the beginning of the Republic. We have noticed that the doctor speeches produced by the agents associated to the SMCJF has defended the school institution as the principal place of the educational task; has analyzes and prescribed actions to be implemented concerning to school education by a detailed document about their spaces, time and knowledge; has evidenced the importance of Physical Education and the corporal practices as a way of discipline of the students awaking them for healthier attitudes.
