Através das vozes: o que a leitura e a escrita das mulheres privadas de liberdade têm a nos dizer

Abstract

This paper presents research carried out at the Eliane Betti Women's Annex, located in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, in order to investigate how education, reading, writing and the Literature and Prison Project affect the lives of women deprived of their liberty throughout their careers. Monthly meetings were held to discuss the books that had been read that month. As a result, they talked about their trajectories and their prospects for the future. The methodology used to carry out this field research was qualitative, since the aim was to listen to and observe these women in a welcoming way. To this end, interviews were conducted with four women over a period of months, with topics separated into four main axes: 1 - Trajectories in Formal Education; 2 - Reading Experiences; 3 - Writing Experiences and 4 - Relationship with the Literature and Prison Project. In this way, it was possible to understand how reading and writing were re-signified in the prison environment and, together with the Literature and Prison Project, became refuges for these women.
