O pensamento autoritário nacionalista no Brasil: uma breve análise do pensamento de Oliveira Vianna e Azevedo Amaral

Abstract

This article seeks to understand the origins and characteristics of Brazilian authoritarian thought during the first decades of the republican form of government in Brazil. To carry out this study, works that had authoritarianism as an object of study both in history and in the social sciences will be revisited, as well as dictionaries of political concepts to address the topic in a more comprehensive and adequate way. The study of the origins of authoritarianism and its characteristics in Brazil is justified to understand the context and meanings that the authoritarian phenomenon presented in Brazil in the past, its differences, and similarities with the phenomenon currently in Brazil and in the world, especially when the theme contemporary and past authoritarian experiences are an incessant object of debate in the academy, in the political milieu and in the mass media. For that, the main lines of authoritarian nationalist thought will be rescued from two of the greatest exponents in Brazil in the first half of the 20th century: Oliveira Vianna and Azevedo Amaral.
