| Resumo: | Este trabalho investiga a relação entre o uso da violência por parte dos pais e o desenvolvimento de habilidades cognitivas e não cognitivas dos filhos. Os dados utilizados são do painel formado pelas rodadas de 2012 e 2017 da Encuesta Longitudinal de Primera Infancia (ELPI), pesquisa de caráter nacional, que acompanha o desenvolvimento de sucessivas coortes de crianças ao longo de sua infância e adolescência. A estratégia empírica baseia-se na estimação de um modelo de efeito fixo de tempo e indivíduo. Com exceção do efeito heterogêneo para idade, o índice de violência tem relação somente com as habilidades não cognitivas, sendo essa correlação associada, principalmente, à violência psicológica. Um aumento de 1 ponto do índice de violência total aumenta o teste de habilidades não cognitivas em 1,75 ponto ou 0,175 desvio padrão. |
| Abstract: | This study investigates the relationship between the use of violence by parents and the development of children’s cognitive and non-cognitive skills. The data used are from the panel formed by the 2012 and 2017 rounds of textit Encuesta Longitudinal de Primera Infancia (ELPI), a national survey, which follows the development of successive cohorts of children throughout their childhood and adolescence. The empirical strategy is based on estimating a fixed effect panel model, based on the human capital formation model. Except the case of age heterogeneous effect, the violence index is only related to non-cognitive skills, and this correlation is mainly associated with psychological violence. An increase of 1 point in the total violence index increases the test of non-cognitive skills by 1.75 points or 0.175 standard deviation. |
