Narrativas midiáticas sobre a política externa brasileira: os casos da entrada e suspensão da Venezuela do Mercosul

Abstract

Through an interdisciplinary study, we seek to identify the interactions between the fields of communication and politics, considering the interweaving of logics between them. Thus, the present work aims to elucidate the narratives and frameworks used by Brazilian newspapers in the approach to foreign policy issues. Here, more specifically, the journalistic coverage of Mercosur was analyzed, paying attention to the moments of crisis that included both the entry of Venezuela into the bloc and its later suspension. Through the analysis of content, the texts published by the newspapers O Globo and Folha de S. Paulo were examined and categorized, producing a qualitative and quantitative study. Through the results obtained, it is possible to affirm that the coverage of the regional themes is structured around its conflicts and characters, functioning as a simplifying resource for the narrative. Such a framework, beyond confining the public debate, ends up contributing to the construction of a popular imaginary over our regional environment, structuring not only the understanding of reality, but reality itself.
