A síntese integral: a teoria do integralismo na obra de Miguel Reale (1932-1939)

Abstract

This thesis investigates Brazilian integralism in the works of the jurist, professor and politician Miguel Reale (1910-2006). The sources of this investigation were prospected from the texts published by the author during the period in which he fought for the Brazilian Integralist Action (AIB), between 1932 and 1939, and was one of the main leaders of what was the first mass movement in Brazil, model of a militarized revolutionary party of the far right. Our research emphasis rests on what has been thought about theory of History and historiography, law theory and the corporatist State, and especially the political role of the historian in the construction of the nation-State, "reborn" of the nationalist struggle of the Integralists against the "enemies of the fatherland". We carry out a Political and Social History in accordance with the approaches practiced in Ideas in Context by the history of political thought and the history of the concepts. Is analyzed the emergency context and the intellectual and political trajectory of Miguel Reale following a synchronic line of analysis, crossed with diachronic investigations on the ruptures and continuities contained in the basic concepts that formed the ideology and integralist political vocabulary in the 1930s. Thus, our research proposal is to identify and clarify both the individual linguistic performance of Reale as to the authorial multiplicity that formed the ideology and the concept of "integralism" used in the 1930’s by him. In this way we present in our perspective integralism as part of the many paths taken by the social sciences and by the historiographies that emerged at that time in Brazil, undoubtedly influenced by the circumstantial strategies of political struggle. Finally, we aim to contribute to the debates about the concept of "integralism" used by contemporary historiography.
