Análise do abandono escolar no ensino médio: a realidade de uma escola estadual de Manaus/AM

Abstract

This dissertation was developed under the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of Education (PPGP) of the Center for Public Policies and Education Evaluation, Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd / UFJF). The management case studied discussed school dropout in high school in a state school in Manaus/AM. In this sense, the study referred to the question: What measures can be implemented by school management to reduce the problem of high dropout rates? The general objective defined for this case study was to identify and propose actions for the main causes of school dropout in the school under study. The specific objectives defined were: i) to describe the physical and pedagogical characteristics of the school under study, taking into account qualitative and quantitative information about dropout, by grade and shift; ii) analyze the evidence and possible causes of school dropout in the socioeconomic context of the school and the school community; and iii) propose actions to attend the infrequent students and / or who have already dropped out of school and returned, so that they can remain until the end of their studies. The research and the theoretical discussion about school abandonment were based on the works of Batista (2009), Castelar (2012), Borja e Martins (2014), Oliveira (2015), Soares (2015), Lück (2009, 2012 e 2013) and Paro (2016). The dissertation is structured in three chapters. The methodology adopted consisted of a qualitative research, through a case study. For this, we used field research tools, a questionnaire for eighteen students, and semi-structured interviews, with the participation of the manager, the pedagogue and four teachers. In the first chapter, we describe the dropping out of school in Brazil, in Amazonas, in the District Office of Education 03 and in the school under study. In the second chapter, we developed the theoretical study on school drop-out, the collection of information and the presentation of field research data. In chapter 3, we present the analysis of the collected data, and we developed an educational action plan with the purpose of providing subsidies to the school management in facing the problem of school dropout.
