“Faça você mesmo”: o fanzine como representação do movimento punk em Juiz de Fora

Abstract

This dissertation aims to study and understand the narratives and productions of meaning that involved the punk scene of the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, during the 1980s, through alternative publications produced by the groups themselves, the fanzines Alerta Punk e Aos Berros. The punk movement was born in the United States and England in the late 1970s, and quickly spread throughout the world. In the city of Juiz de Fora, the movement was consolidated among young people in the early 1980s, with the formation of bands and the production of fanzines, publications that aimed to express a content directed to the movement itself and allowed the punks to divulge their opinions, thoughts and ideologies, being a form of expression of this group. So, in the theoretical context of this research, the concepts of youth and tribes are addressed, using authors such as José Machado Pais (2003) and Michel Maffesoli (1998); the context of rock and the punk movement in Brazil and in the world, using Laurence Grossberg (1997), Paul Friedlander (2004), Antônio Bivar (1982), Marcelo Rubens Paiva (2016) and Janice Caiafa (1985); the analysis of alternative communication and the production of fanzines, based on the thoughts of Henrique Magalhães (2014), Chris Atton (2002), Claude Lévi-Strauss (2008) and Tiphaine Samoyault (2008). The research brings together interviews with former members of this movement, through the Methodology of Oral History, and Content Analysis, using the theoretical contribution of Laurence Bardin (2011), the fanzines Alerta Punk and Aos Berros, observing the content, the graphical composition and the intertextualities present in these publications.
