O cronismo de Luiz Ruffato no El País: narrativas de resistência e engajamento

Abstract

The chronicle, textual genre which transits through the fields of literature and journalism, can be recognized for its argumentative potential and for its ability to seduce and engage the reader in order to reach the author’s intentions or the communication channels that he writes to. One of the reflexes of its textual versatility is the capacity of this discursive genre to capture social vestiges that escape the news. Therefore, the chronicle is considered a rich cultural and social indicator of time and space, either when the context of its production is observed or when the issues manifested in the text are analyzed. The general objective of this research is to investigate the characteristics of Luiz Ruffato’s chronicle in the newspaper El País. The analyzed universe consists of 200 chronicles published in the period between 11/26/2013 and 9/30/2017. These texts were cataloged in four thematic groups for later analysis of those dealing with politics, once it is the category that encompasses the largest volume of texts in the mentioned period. Based on the methodology of critical analysis of the narrative, by Luiz Gonzaga Motta (2013), 30 chronicles of this universe were qualitatively analyzed, aiming to highlight Ruffato’s narrative strategies, in his political project of criticism and engagement. It could be detected the author’s choice for the production of opinion texts, a strategy that contributes to its consolidation as an intellectual.
