Corpos narrados - o corpo que fala e sobre o qual se fala

Abstract

The main subject of this paper is the body itself and as a background the social complex of Juiz de Fora. From a bibliography which is in more of Mauss, Geertz, Lévi-Strauss e Santaella a doubt was raised concerning the women’s body representations in different social scales. Not only different but opposite. To check it I used interviews and the corpus of this paper which is made of 4 women from the low social class, all of them living in Alto Grajaú district- mother or sister of students from the Celeida Gomes public school – and 4 women from the middle social class chart living in bairro Manoel Honório – mothers of students from Mendes Carneiro private school. Both districts are located on the east side of Juiz de Fora and are near from each other geographically. Through analyses of unidades mínimas ideológicas, proposed by Gilberto Velho, in “A utopia Urbana”, were worked out the several resemblances found in the women’s speech. The only difference which came up in their speeches was studied with the support of Luiz Fernando Dias Duarte, in “Da vida nervosa nas classes trabalhadoras urbanas” and Elizabeth Bott, in “Família e rede social”. It made me interested to inverstigate if there were different speeches about the body as a theme which could point the fact of being part of the low chart or the middle chart. I didn’t want, through their speeches to put the women under of any preexisted standard. The social classes difference came up as a very important matter as analysing the opposite speeches between the two groups. The middle social class group is close to the low social class group and that is why their speeches are very alike, only different because they from different social class and because of the rising of women from Manoel Honório district once classified in the low class.
