Jagunços, pivetes e outros inocentes: violência e identidade em Guimarães Rosa e Rubem Fonseca

Abstract

The study of the Brazilian cultural identity, in its different representations, through the rupture and permanent relationships observed in Guimarães Rosa's and Rubem Fonseca’s narratives, that represents certain forms of violence manifestation, having as foundations identity, literature and cultural studies. Starting from the violence definition, which changes in agreement with the cultural paradigms of each society, a historical of the discursive constructions that legitimate or condemn its manifestations was delineated, from the Old Republic to the military regime, period relating to the mentioned authors' works. Reflections based in a multidiscipline methodology, about moral of the honor and of the revenge, the fight for social-political-economic transformations and survival strategies in an adverse way; they aim to demonstrate the change that affected the Brazilian cultural identity, submitted to an intensive industrialization process and urbanization in the referred temporary extension. Articulating theoretical postulates of the human sciences and important studies of these writers' critical fortune, a comparative approach of some stories was made that, besides reiterating the evident antagonisms, it also reveals the existence of bridges among the margins represented by these two readers from Brazil.
