O debate sobre diversidade sexual e de gênero no processo de formação profissional em serviço social

Abstract

The main objective of this dissertation is to present support for the inclusion of the debate on sexual and gender diversity in the process of professional training in Social Work. Initially, it is understood that the social issue, the object of work of social workers, in particular in Brazil, is determined by social relations of class, race and gender (including sexuality). In other words, in order to understand the social issue in the country, one must consider not only the capitalist system, but also patriarchy and racism, since such systems of domination and exploitation are intertwined in a “knot”, forming the patriarchal-racist-capitalist system. Considering the understanding of social reality as a whole, it is argued that professional training in Social Work should address discussions about patriarchal relations of gender and sexuality. Also noteworthy, within the scope of Social Work, is the commitment that the entities representing the professional category have assumed with such debates, especially since the 2000s, and it is questioned whether the same process can be glimpsed in professional training. Therefore, in addition to bibliographic research, documentary research was carried out on the 1996 ABEPSS curricular guidelines and the Pedagogical Projects of the Courses, highlighting the disciplines that address the categories “gender”, “sexual diversity” and “sexuality” in their titles, syllabuses, objectives and/or bibliographic references. The research was conducted with 11 public federal higher education institutions that offer undergraduate courses in Social Work from different regions of the country, and demonstrated that the debate is approached, in most part, through the apprehension of social relations, gender and patriarchy, followed by discussions about law, public and social policies. The research also indicated that there is a presence of different theoretical perspectives in the bibliographic references regarding such themes; however, the dissertation demonstrates the possibility of approaching the debate on sexual and gender diversity in professional training through Marxist critical social theory and recognizing the imbrication of the patriarchal-racist-capitalist system in the Brazilian particularity.
