O acordo Mercosul-União Europeia e a perpetuação da divisão internacional do trabalho: entre o livre comércio ou a dependência econômica

Abstract

The free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union aims to facilitate trade, reduce tariff barriers, and expand the flow of goods and services. However, its provisions also raise questions about the structural impacts on Mercosur countries, particularly regarding industrialization, technological dependence, and a production model based on commodity exports. In this context, this study investigates whether the agreement reinforces the international division of labor by consolidating Mercosur’s role as a supplier of raw materials and a consumer of manufactured goods. The research adopts a qualitative approach based on a literature review, with an emphasis on the structuralist perspective of Cepal, particularly the contributions of Celso Furtado and Raúl Prebisch. Thus, the study seeks to understand the treaty’s potential effects on regional economic development and assess whether its provisions increase or reduce the asymmetries between central and peripheral economies.
