Abstract

The study proposes a reflection on food insecurity, in its most severe stage – hunger – and its relationship with the growth of agribusiness and the financial system. The worsening of hunger, associated with the environmental emergency, has intensified the dependente of agricultural production on the imperatives of capitalista accumulation. Under the command of financial capitalism, agribusiness oligopolies control the commodities market and a globalized food chain, resulting in an increase of poverty with alarming specificities, today. It is with this aim that the research seeks to problematize hunger, since the need to produce food for consumption is replaced by the logic of producing commodities. In this context, the concentration of land ownership, precisely with the expulsion of the population from their land bases, generated the effects of the liberation of labor in the countryside. Marginalized by social stratification, the so-called “superfluous” are integrated into the immense mass of “hungry” in capitalist Society.
