Jornalismo e memória: a representação e a representatividade de grupos historicamente silenciados na coluna Outras Ideias

Abstract

Recognizing the relationship between journalism and memory, this research set out to investigate the representation and representativeness of historically silenced groups in the column Outras Ideias, created by the journalist Mauro Morais and published by the newspaper Tribuna de Minas in Juiz de Fora, between 2014 and 2020. Understanding that the newsworthiness criteria, responsible for guiding the perspective of journalistic objectivity, leave gaps in this sense, the proposal was to identify whether the use of subjectivity is capable of expanding the visibility of socially discriminated ones and contributing to the deconstruction of prejudices. For this study, the 266 interviewed by the column were cataloged, considering the concepts of outrofobias [others-phobia] by Fabiana Moraes (2022) and hierarchies of memories by Fernando Perlatto (2022). The Content Analysis (CA) methodology, by Laurence Bardin (2011), was used to evaluate how social groups were represented. With the theoretical contribution of authors from communication, sociology, and history fields, reflection was made on how journalistic narratives contribute to the construction of society's memory, understanding of the world, and concepts of identity and alterity. We conclude, therefore, that thinking about other formats, in addition to the traditional newsmaking model, may be an alternative to promoting the diversity of records that are perpetuated.
