Estética Camp, Maria Antonieta e Drag Queen: Figurino e fashion film “O Novo Clássico”

Abstract

The present academic work addresses as main theme the Camp aesthetic and its association with drag queens. To this end, it started from the image of the French queen Marie Antoinette, a figure who markedly used fashion, in an unconventional and exaggerated way, marks of the approach to the Camp aesthetic, to reestablish her relations of power and image. In this sense, the research aimed to reconstruct, in a contemporary and performative drag approach, an emblematic dress of Queen Marie Antoinette. In theoretical-methodological terms, the work sought specialized literature for the discussion of the theme and carried out the confection of the garment and accessories according to the mobilized concepts. The final form of presentation chosen was the fashion film, which made it possible in modern language to present the performance, the scenarios produced and convey the narrative to be told. In the end, the work, in addition to contributing to the state of knowledge on the subject, establishes a social and political commitment to the focus of drag queens, as well as evidenced the complexity of a broad project, which connects and merges with the labor market of the Bachelor of Fashion.
