A pessoa idosa e a cidade: um centro de convivência para o bairro Santa Terezinha

Abstract

The theme of this monograph is the relationship between the aging process and the built and urban environments, understanding the potential of architecture and urbanism to promote quality of life, the sense of belonging and possibilities for appropriations, attending the specific demands of this stage of life. Aiming to achieve the objective of substantiating the proposal of a Convivence Center to be projected in the second semester of this academic work, were developed studies about the theme with a theoretical focus mainly based on the authors Perracini (2013) and Yassuda (2013), who carefully approaches topics related to spaces for the elderly people and their demands about adaptability, planning and the aspects related to the memory during the aging process, respectively. In addition, Tuan (1980; 1983) was indispensable to the work, discussing memories, experiences and affectivity related with the contexts and realities. Three cases were studied: the “Sentidos Comprehensive Center for the Elderly”, an outdoor retreat and the Elderly Convivence Center in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, that, in different countries, realities and sizes, were fundamental. Furthermore, historic, social and technical analyses were conducted about the Santa Terezinha neighborhood, leading to the conclusion of the importance and potential of this work in promoting a valuable addition to the area, meeting the demands of convivence and public places in a context that the aging of the population tends to continue increasing, quantitatively and qualitatively.
