Tratamento das alterações de sensibilidade do nervo alveolar inferior e nervo lingual

Abstract

The present study aimed to review the literature on current treatments for Inferior Alveolar Nerve and Lingual Nerve paresthesia, highlighting the effectiveness of each therapy. Paresthesia is characterized as a change in sensitivity in the innervated region, causing reported symptoms such as tingling, numbness, "hook" and itching. Its etiology is varied, arising from surgery, trauma, anesthesia or endodontic treatment, which are close to the nervous structures. A search for scientific articles was carried out in the Scielo, PubMed and gray literature databases, within the period from 2007 to 2021, on paresthesia and its treatments. The literature review allowed us to conclude that the proposed treatments can be medicated, laser therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy and electrostimulation. However, these therapies have not shown proven effectiveness and their methods of use are not clear and standardized. Therefore, still, the best method would be prevention on the part of the Dental Surgeon, through the use of imaging exams, adequate planning and knowledge of the technique.
