(Des)fazendo história na internet: visões acerca da ditadura militar brasileira em canais da “nova direita” no YouTube (2013-2018)

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze videos from significant YouTube channels of the Brazilian “new right” that cover the theme of the Brazilian military dictatorship, as well as their respective comments. We will work with the time frame from June 2013 to the year 2018, as the June demonstrations created a favorable terrain for the dissemination of “liberal in the economy and conservative in the customs” ideas of the “new right”, which coincides, precisely, with its more vibrant appearance in the public and digital sphere. From this, we will seek to understand how these subjects interpret, discuss and share the past, as well as identify the inconsistencies of the defended content, to problematize their revisionist and negationist views on the dictatorship, in contrast to what has been consolidated in Brazilian historiography about the subject. This study will allow us to reflect on the role of the historian in the face of new media, given its great power of public reach, and the challenges provided by the disputes that occurred in the public sphere around the memories of the Brazilian military dictatorship.
