Abstract

The theme will be elaborated from a bibliographical and qualitative research, with the objective of analyzing the figure of Dionysus and examine the meaning and intentionality of the worshipping attitudes and mythological beliefs concerning their priestesses. Trying to understand him, mainly, as a god of mysteries and ritual madness. Thus, this study presents itself as a descriptive, explanatory and interpretive corpus of the figure of Dionysus, mainly associated with nature, and the attitudes of the spirituality of the maenads, and how this attitude could be translated into a life wisdom. The analysis model will be conducted through the Science of Religion and historical study, studying the articulations between the mythological, ritual and social dimensions of Dionysus and the Dionysian priestesses, and how they shape non-dual knowledge with the natural environment, exploring the possibility of Dionysian madness to be, in fact, an excess of wisdom. The research was divided into three chapters that aim: (1) to clarify the mythological and historical image of the god Dionysus, investigating his role within Greek religiosity; (2) study its epithets and domains associated with nature, mainly under its mask of Lýsios, the liberator; and (3) understand the ritual act of the maenads as a possibility of recognizing our condition of nature.
