Que gigante acordou? Uma análise da participação nas manifestações de junho de 2013 dentro da dinâmica das crises mundiais

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze, especially from the perspective of representation and legitimacy, the crises that have affected contemporary democracies, which have been challenged through the protests that broke out across the world and in Brazil, as was seen in the demonstrations of June 2013. From the study of these protests, including the common characteristics that connect them, the aspects of direct action and the new experiences of activism and participation jump as one of the most authentic and outstanding elements of the mobilization processes, demonstrating that the democratic potential of the streets overflow the institutions and challenge them through action. Bearing in mind the crisis of representation, on the one hand, and the strengthening of popular potential, on the other, it is necessary to highlight that, in Brazil, in particular, all the political and economic processes, as well as their particular culture, have caused, from the crisis triggered by the demonstrations of June 2013, the rise of conservative and liberal forces which, in favor of their own projects, may have reinforced the critical spirit, which has existed since June, of combating corruption, distrust of institutions and antipetismo (the opposition to the Brazilian Workers’ Party, the Partido dos Trabalhadores [PT]). Thus, this work is an effort to interpret one of the many facets of a political, economic, and social phenomenon that occurs in the world and in Brazil, having a great role in the country's crisis, but also in its emancipation through a contradictory process that inaugurates both unprecedented forms of activism and multiple and singular methods of interpretation.
