Estudo comparativo do estágio de maturação da sutura palatina mediana definido em diferentes cortes axiais de tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico (estudo piloto avaliando corte superior)

Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this study was to verify whether the maturation stage of the midpalatal suture varies according to the height of axial cross-sectional slice which it is determined in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: The sample consisted of 17 CBCT tests that presented an image covering the entire palate region. Of the 17 individuals, 8 were male (47.1%) and 9 females (52.9%), aged between 11 and 45 years and mean of 22 (±7.10) years. The evaluation of the maturation stage of the midpalatal suture was performed using two axial cross-sectional slice of the CBCT exams, one cut being the best view of the midpalatal suture and the other, a cut 0.5mm above the first according to the methodology proposed by Angelieri et al. (2013). Results: When comparing the classifications attributed to the two axial cross-sectional slice of each individual, an agreement was observed in 9 of the 17 tests (52.9%). It was also possible to observe that the disagreements in the classification of the upper cut obtained the same percentage of overestimation and underestimation of the best visualization cut, not obtaining a result pattern. Conclusion: It is concluded with the present study that the maturation stage of the midpalatal suture did not vary from the upper cut to the better visualization cut. Thus, the hypothesis that the maturation stage of midpalatal suture is different depending on the time at which the axial cross-sectional slice is performed was rejected.
