Abstract

Juiz de Fora is an example of contrasts. Its society, marked by inequalities in economic and political conditions, among other factors, allows us to make important observations about the clash among the subjects. We have, through the plurality of social subjects, the construction of relationships which are necessary for the production of urban space. In the diversity of relationships, we draw attention to those constructed through work activities, especially the paid ones. By observing the conjuncture of the world of work, it is possible to verify that, under specific aspects, there is differentiation in the reproductive conditions of workers. Several aspects are considered in the act of recruitment of the workforce, especially qualification. However, the problems related to the insertion of black workers in the local labor market do not only concern the qualification of the worker: other factors, especially race/color, have been as decisive as those mentioned above. This also involves the participation of the black population in the production of urban space. In this step, the segregation of the black population in the city also became naturalized, even after government policies of racial equality.
