Abstract

This study aims to debate the relation between identity and space represented in the novels O voo da Guará Vermelha (REZENDE, 2014a), Quarenta dias (REZENDE, 2014b), and Outros cantos (REZENDE, 2016). I have looked for investigating the elements which are responsible for the construction of the gender roles, taking into account the female characters in condition of displacement and situated in precarious geographical and social spaces, both in urban centers (REZENDE, 2014a, 2014b), and in the rural countryside (REZENDE, 2016). Through the dialog with critical social theories, I have looked for identifying the main thematic axes around which the literary production of the writer develops itself, in order to gather the defining elements of her writing. Within this perspective, I have looked for understanding how the writer addresses issues related to the contradictions implied in the capitalist project of modernization that has guided the development of the Brazilian society, taking into account the implications arising from the asymmetrical relations of power. The analysis of the literary works made it possible to debate the operating modes of the structure that maintains both individual and groups in unfavorable conditions, disclosing the impacts of this model in the relations of gender and class within the Brazilian context. From the analysis made, it was possible to verify the narrative voices in constant displacement through spaces of vulnerability, allowing one to identify the existence of a literary project concerned about evidencing the social and geographical margins of a country that is marked by prejudice, inequality, and social exclusion.
