Entre o dever e a inclinação: um debate acerca da relação de Friedrich Schiller com a ética de Immanuel Kant

Abstract

Recently research on Friedrich Schiller and the authors who preceded both German idealism and Romanticism has increased. This work aimed to add to this debate by establishing the relationship between Kant's practical philosophy and Schiller's ethical contributions, an author who was, and still is, treated only as a poet and playwright, but who made an important contribution to both disciplines of ethics and aesthetics. Although some try to deny the title of a philosopher to Schiller most specialists recognize the great impact of his work in the major cultural expressions of the time, both artistically and philosophically: the romanticism and German idealism. Indeed, it is vital that we deal with Schiller's philosophical texts, throwing special light upon them in relation to Kantian philosophy, for we may thus better understand the path that leads from Kant to Hegel and from the Enlightenment to Romanticism. That being said, this dissertation sought to establish Schiller's relationship with Kant, especially with his practical philosophy. Searching for what we believe is the core of Kantian morality, for so we sought to point out Schiller's adherence to them, as well as the coupling of his project with the Enlightenment in the search for rational principles that aim at the political and ethical emancipation of humanity.
