Os desafios do ensino médio: o caso de uma escola estadual em Minas Gerais

Abstract

The present dissertation was developed within the scope of the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of the Education (PPGP) of the Center for Public Policies and Evaluation of Education of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAED/UFJF). The management case analyzed the low performance of the students from the third year of secondary school at Frei Anselmo State School in mathematics and Portuguese. More specifically, was analyzed the results of the Portuguese Language and Mathematics Basic Education Assessment Program (PROEB) and the oscillation of these results between the years 2010 to 2016, as well as the possible factors that caused these oscillations. The purpose defined for this study were to investigate and to understand the oscillation that the school has been presenting to propose actions that can collaborate with the improvement of the performance of the students in these disciplines. It was admitted as hypothesis that the pedagogical and curricular questions and the organizational environment are part of the factors under analysis. Therefore, the methodology used was bibliographical research and field research. As data collection instruments, semi-structured interviews were used with the deputy director and the supervisor who works in the night shift, as also with teachers of Portuguese Language and Mathematics of high school and focus groups with secondary school students without age- grade distortion and students with age-grade distortion. As a conclusion, an Educational Action Plan was presented, with proposals for interventions, aimed at improving student learning, and consequently proficiency in external evaluations.
