Paisagens e ancestralidade em Mia Couto

Abstract

The study of landscape in the scope of Literature is something new, challenging and imprints new approaches in fictional texts. This thesis presents a new approach, the result of incursions on four works by the Mozambican writer Mia Couto – Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra (2003), O último voo do flamingo (2005 , A varanda do frangipani (2007) e A confissão da leoa (2012) – which studies the literary representations of the landscape associated with the ancestrality of Mozambique. The landscape, strongly based on symbolic aspects and related to the culture of represented characters, in anchored on the aspects of the nature of Mozambique and the meaning that the local actors give to such symbols. The method used was that of bibliographic research. The problematization of the theme was based mainly on the theories of Michel Collot (2013), Gaston Bachelard (1977), Hampaté Bâ (2010) and Jean-Marc Besse (2014) which enlabed the interdisciplinary study, where we can prove a close connection between landscapes and ancestrality in the Mozambican daily life portrayed in fiction.
