Resumen : The present dissertation is developed within the scope of the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of Education (PPGP) of the Center for Public Policies and Education Evaluation of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd/UFJF). The management case to be studied will discuss the retention in the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts and Design and second cycle Professional Bachelor’s. The retention process is defined in this research as the delay in performing the required academic activities of the course that characterize the fulfillment of the workload. Analyzing the number of graduates of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts and Design and second cycle options of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, it is possible to verify a delay in performing the process of fulfillment in the courses. This fact is worrisome because the longer the stay in the university, the higher the cost per student in higher education, a stage that already represents the highest cost index in public education. The delay in the graduation also entails the delay of the exit of qualified professionals to the labor market and can also result in the avoidance of the course, which occurs when the student is unable to continue with the studies and ends up leaving the course, causing greater losses for the institution. In order to try to improve the verified rates, this work tries to solve the following question: how to ease the recurring problem of delays in the graduation of second option bachelor’s of the Institute of Arts and Design of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora? The general objective defined for this study was to identify obstacles to the graduation time of the students of the Institute of Arts and Design of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. Thus, to elucidate the problem, the first chapter describes the operation of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts and Design, in which the problem occurs. In the second chapter the analysis of the retention process is made, through interviews with students, course coordinators and other actors of relevance to the subject within the UFJF; contributing to this analysis, authors who have already discussed the subject have been consulted as well. Finally, in the third chapter an educational action plan is proposed, aiming to contribute to the improvement in the retention rates evidenced in this research.
