Do contrato social em Hobbes e Freud: reflexões sobre Leviatã e o Mal-estar na civilização.

Abstract

Comparative study about the views of Thomas Hobbes and Sigmund Freud on the power and the plexus of structuring relations in the formation of society and the State. Initially, some reflections on the interdisciplinarity between the juridical and psychoanalytic sciences, their definitions, limits and methodological traits are presented. Right after, some reflections on the work of Hobbes, Leviathan, will be explained specifically in the first part of Man, in which are found the ideas of the thinker about human nature and the desires that move it. Such desires represent the main area of intersection with Psychoanalysis. The hypothesis of work rests on the influence of Hobbesian thought on the formation of Freud’s so-called social thought, that is, everything that the father of psychoanalysis produced, in addition to his clinical interest, spreading over society and its civilizing process. Such a synthesis of his thought can be found in Civilization and Its Discontents. The main vector through which it is possible to identify convergent forms of the ideas of the two thinkers is the discovery of the radical and founding hostility between the subject and the civilization, the first moved by the natural passions (Hobbes) or the drives (Freud) and the second only if enabling to the extent that it is able to repress and control these passions.
