| Resumo: | Esta dissertação tem como objetivo principal analisar a morte e o morrer na cidade de Juiz de Fora – MG, com ênfase nas transformações vivenciadas a partir da criação do Cemitério Público, oficialmente inaugurado em 1864. A criação deste cemitério foi diretamente influenciada pelo processo de medicalização da morte, ocorrido em diversas cidades, principalmente durante a segunda metade do século XIX. Sendo assim, a transferência do cemitério da Igreja Matriz para um local afastado do centro urbano é o ponto de partida desta pesquisa. No contexto dessa mudança de local surgiram questões mais complexas, não apenas restritas ao âmbito do cemitério, mas inseridas na vida das pessoas, de um modo geral. Assim, surgem novas formas de se vivenciar a morte, expressas não apenas nos túmulos, mas também nos anúncios dos jornais e nos registros de óbitos, por exemplo. Juiz de Fora situa-se como um exemplo dessa mudança de mentalidade relacionada à morte e ao morrer, em suas mais significativas particularidades. |
| Abstract: | This dissertation has as its main objective to analyze the death and dying in the city of Juiz de Fora - MG, with emphasis in the transformations lived from the creation of the Public Cemetery, officially inaugurated in 1864. The creation of this cemetery was directly influenced by the process of medication of death, occurred in many cities, mainly during the second half of 19th century. So, the transference of the cemetery from the main Church to a place far from the urban center is the starting point of this research. In the context of this change of place more complex questions appeared, not only restricted to the scope of the cemetery, but also inserted in the life of people, in a general way. Thus, new forms of experiencing death appear, and they are shown not only in the tombs, but also in the announcements of periodicals and death certificates, for example. Juiz de Fora is seem as an example of this change of mentality related to the death and dying, in their more significant particularities. |
