Práticas de cuidado, tecnologia e religiosidade: uma etnografia em centro de terapia intensiva

Abstract

The question that guides this work is: “If and in what forms, religiosity and thecnology articulate to the care understanding and pratices in the ICU – Intensive Care Unit - of the Regional Hospital Dr. João Penido - FHEMIG?” The objective is to present some reflexions over the controversies present in health care pratices, in the context of a ICU in a hospital that is part of the state health network, located in Juiz de Fora – Minas Gerais. Such controversies arise from the perspectives of patients and health professionals; in the dialectics between supply and demand of care; conventional and religious care pratices, among others. The experience of an illness causes a desorganization in the universe of the persons that get sick and in the reorganization process, these persons return to their believes and values. One of the greatest source of significance is of religious nature. They rely in medical knowledge, advances in science and also in others elements. It’s not possible to put care takers, the support professionals, in another place, in a opposite position to where the patients: a place of emotional isolation. They witness the pain and act on it. They think and rethink their pratices, their lives, from their multiple referentials: believes, knowledge, emotions, identifications, etc. In this context, nothing is crystalized. Everything is dynamic and interrelated. The “care” here is not taken as a starting point, but a concept to be pursued on the field work.
