| Resumo: | O aumento da população idosa e as novas construções culturais e teóricas acerca dos processos de envelhecimento vem reconfigurando os papeis assumidos por idosas no seio das famílias contemporâneas. A presente pesquisa objetivou investigar a percepção de avós cuidadoras maternas sobre as práticas educativas e acompanhamento de seus netos em idade escolar e suas concepções sobre o desenvolvimento, educação e relacionamentos intergeracionais. A pesquisa foi dividida em duas etapas. A primeira, de rastreamento, contou com a participação de 70 mulheres, com idade média de 66,2 anos, avós de crianças de 7 a 10 anos de idade, alunos de uma escola particular na cidade de Juiz de Fora, sendo submetidas à aplicação de um instrumento de sondagem para a identificação das avós cuidadoras. Após análise estatística dos resultados, 10 avós, com idade igual ou superior a 60 anos, foram selecionadas para a participação na segunda etapa da pesquisa, respondendo a uma entrevista semi-estruturada cujo roteiro envolveu doze perguntas distribuídas em cinco temáticas. Os resultados oriundos do instrumento de rastreamento revelaram que 80% das avós encontravam-se numa faixa etária entre 50 e 59 anos enquanto a maioria das avós idosas, 85,5%, estavam compreendidas entre a faixa etária dos 60 – 69 anos e 14,5% entre 70-79 anos. No que se refere ao estado civil, 60% das avós maduras eram casadas enquanto 54,5% das avós idosas encontravam-se em união estável. A média do número de filhos para a amostra total de avós foi de 3,49 e a média para o número de netos esteve entre 4,27. A média do número de pessoas que residiam com as avós foi de 2,72 por residência. Da amostra inicial, 6,7% das avós maduras e 32,7% das avós idosas foram identificadas como cuidadoras, enquanto 86,6% das avós maduras e 67,3% idosas foram consideradas auxiliares. Das avós idosas cuidadoras, 10 mulheres participaram da entrevista (segunda etapa da pesquisa). A análise de conteúdo dessas entrevistas evidenciou que, o trabalho e a separação dos filhos são as principais razões que motivam o cuidado dos netos pelas avós. Em relação à concepção sobre a educação e criação dos netos, as avós concebem esse papel de uma forma restritiva e diferenciada dos filhos, desempenhando-o de forma secundária. Em relação ao desenvolvimento infantil dos netos, as avós evidenciaram dificuldades relacionadas à nutrição, constituição familiar e carência dos mesmos, declarando ainda que os cuidados prestados aos netos conferem a elas mais benefícios que prejuízos. No que se refere às relações intergeracionais e familiares, as idosas consideram a velhice um marco para mudanças pessoais e funcionais na família. Os resultados permitiram concluir que as avós cuidadoras representam suporte prático para os filhos e afetivo para os netos embora desempenhem um papel secundário na educação deles. |
| Abstract: | The increasing elderly population and new cultural and theoretical constructions about the processes of aging is reconfiguring the roles assumed by older within the contemporary family. This study investigated the perception of grandparent caregivers on maternal parenting practices and monitoring of their grandchildren at school age and their views on development, education and intergenerational relationships. The research was divided into two stages. The first screening, with the participation of 70 women with mean age of 66.2 years, grandparents of children aged 7 to 10 years old, attending a private school in the city of Juiz de Fora, being subjected to the application a survey instrument for the identification of grandparents caring. After statistical analysis, 10 grandparents, aged over 60 years, were selected for participation in the second stage of the research, responding to a semi-structured interview guide which involved twelve questions divided into five themes. The results from the screening instrument showed that 80% of grandparents were in the age group between 50 and 59 years while the majority of elderly grandparents, 85.5% were between the ages of 60-69 years and 14, 5% between 70-79 years. With regard to marital status, 60% of mature grandparents were married while 54.5% of elderly grandparents were in a stable union. The average number of children for the total sample of grandparents was 3.49 and the mean number of grandchildren was between 4.27. The average number of people living with grandparents was 2.72 per household. Of the initial sample, 6.7% of grandmothers mature grandmothers and 32.7% of participants were identified as caregivers, while 86.6% of grandmothers mature and older 67.3% were considered auxiliary. Grandmas elderly caregivers, 10 women participated in the interview (the second stage of the research). The content analysis of these interviews showed that the separation of work and children are the main reasons that motivate the care of grandchildren for grandparents. For design of the education and upbringing of their grandchildren, grandmothers conceive this role in a restrictive manner, differentiated the children, playing it so secondary. In relation to child development of their grandchildren, grandmothers revealed difficulties related to nutrition, family setting and lack thereof, declare that even the care of grandchildren to give them more benefits than losses. With regard to intergenerational relationships and families, the elderly consider old age as a milestone for personal and functional changes in the family. The results showed that represent practical support grandparents caring for children and affection for their grandchildren while playing a secondary role in their education. |
