Abstract

This study analyses the emphasis given to the woman figure from the designation of her centrality in the family utilized by the National Policy of Social Assistance (NPSA) (2004). Within this policy the Purse-Family Program (PFP) was chosen for the analysis of the Family-Woman centrality, since, at electing the woman as the preferential beneficiary of the reallocated resources to the familiar nucleus, the program reinforces the cultural standards that maintain the feminine figure linked to the traditional roles of gender. Having as empiric reference beneficiary families resident in the quarter Linhares, in the municipality of Juiz de Fora, the main objective was to understand the questions that show up in the family, from the woman point of view. Besides it was intended to analyse the stress produced in the measures relations lived by the women and State agents. For the realization of this study the ethnographic method and its technique of data collecting, participant observation, field research, semi-structured interview and official documents analysis were utilized. The importance of this sort of study resides in the possibility of a better comprehension of the representations that involve this sort of choice done by the public policy, especially the reinforcement of the traditional roles of gender and their implications for the subjects involved in these processes.
