Abstract: This study examines football commentary in Brazil, focusing on its historical development, transformations, and representations across different media platforms. It aims to identify the characteristics of football commentary on free-to-air television, pay television, and digital platforms, while also examining the emergence and role of women in sports broadcasting. To contextualize this scenario, the study reconstructs the history of football commentary and traces its evolution across mass media. The research employs Laurence Bardin’s Content Analysis methodology, which comprises three stages: pre-analysis, material exploration, and data treatment. The corpus consists of football broadcasts narrated by eight prominent contemporary commentators with distinct broadcasting styles: Cléber Machado, Gustavo Villani, André Henning, Luiz Carlos Júnior, Eduardo Monsanto, Raony Pacheco, Natália Lara, and Renata Silveira. The broadcasts are analyzed according to the following categories: profile, language, interaction with fellow broadcasters and the live chat, structure and format, emotion, and narrative style. The findings seek to map the main characteristics of contemporary football commentary in Brazil.
