| Resumo: | Essa dissertação estuda as associações beneficentes de imigrantes portugueses, organizadas na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, que tiveram os seus estatutos enviados ao Conselho de Estado entre os anos de 1860 e 1882. Por meio da documentação depositada no Arquivo Nacional, o trabalho analisa a clientela, a organização e os objetivos das sociedades, aqui compreendidas como estratégias de organização da sociedade civil. Em meio a um cenário em transformação, as agremiações constituíram-se em espaços para a prática da ajuda mútua, da caridade e da sociabilidade. A pesquisa aborda ainda a relação dessas instituições com a sociedade brasileira, através da atuação do órgão estatal responsável pela avaliação da “utilidade pública” daquelas. |
| Abstract: | This dissertation aims to study Portuguese immigrants’ charitable associations organized in Rio de Janeiro city, which had their by-laws sent to the Conselho de Estado between the years of 1860 and 1882. By means of documentation deposed in the Arquivo Nacional, this paper analyzes the customers, the organization and the objective of such companies, here understood as strategies of organization of civil society. In the middle of a transformation scenery, such associations stood as spaces for the practice of mutual help, charity and sociability. The research deals also with the relation between those institutions and the Brazilian society, through the action of a state body responsible for the evaluation of the “public utility” of those. |
