A atuação do sindicato com os trabalhadores do interior: os efeitos da proximidade com a base a partir da análise do Sindicato dos Marceneiros de Ubá

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyse the performance of labor unions with local territorial base, how they operate in the interior of the country and their relationship with the workers and, where possible, compare their performance in labor union with more extensive territorial bases. Based on thesis comparisons and on historial study, it seeks to understand the current union structure, analyzing the number of union entities and the impact of pulverization, as well as their role in disseminating labor legislation, while as a social right guaranteed by the Constitution. The focus of the research was the Union of Official Carpenters and Workers in the Sawmills and Wood Furniture Industries of Uba-MG (SMU), with a territorial base only in that municipality, which, according to IBGE data, has approximately 115 thousand inhabitants, tracing a parallel, whenever possible, with the Union of Carpenter Officers of Belo Horizonte and Region (SINDMAR), which represents workers from cities close to Ubá, i.e. the same socioeconomic conditions. The sources used were documents and archives of the aforementioned unions and legal proceedings that were processed in the Labor Court of the District of Ubá/MG. Studying the historical trajectory of a union in the countryside makes it possible to understand its performance and how it contributed to the formation of the current union structure, bringing to light a relevant part of the world of work, which is the relationship between unions in the interior and workers.
