Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD): desafios e benefícios da implementação em escritórios de contabilidade da cidade Governador Valadares – MG

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the challenges and benefits of implementing the General Data Protection Law (LGPD, in portuguese) in the Accounting Offices of the city Governador Valadares - MG. The following question was established as a research problem: how are the accounting offices of Governador Valadares adapting to the LGPD and what difficulties arise in this process? The overall objective is to analyze whether the city offices are implementing the LGPD and identify the main challenges faced in this process. It was used the quantitative and descriptive methodology for the conduct of this study. In order to investigate the implementation, benefits and difficulties encountered by offices, an online questionnaire was used, through Google Forms, as an information collection tool, used in a sample group consisting of active accounting offices in the city of Governador Valadares – MG. The information collected was analyzed and processed through Microsoft Excel. The results revealed that most clients do not question the accounting offices the fate of their data and portray the lack of adequacy of offices regarding the proper disposal of customer data. However, although accounting firms are aware of the need to comply with the LGPD, this understanding does not result in effective implementation of the legislation. It is concluded, then, that most accounting offices are not in compliance with the General Data Protection Law, and it is necessary to carry out awareness and information campaigns to clients about the importance of the LGPD and the losses that the lack of compliance with the legislation can generate in their personal data.
