Da violência silenciada à violência silenciosa: um estudo sobre os efeitos de trauma no caso Leila Cravo

Abstract

This study aims to understand the processes of violence against women that are carried out through media, especially regarding silent manifestations and the silencing of this form of violence. The methodology was qualitative, involving a case study based on media materials and a theoretical-methodological foundation in Discourse Analysis (Pechêux-Orlandi), in dialogue with theories from Communication and Psychology. The case analyzed was that of the actress and television presenter Leila Cravo who, in 1975, was a victim of violence, which consequently interrupted her career and led to her disappearance from the screens. This case stands as an object of notable significance for understanding the effects of silencing and its relationship with the trauma caused by violence, highlighting the media’s role in this dynamic. The analysis focused on the podcast “Leila”, released in 2022, which narrates events from the actress’ life. Furthermore, the research is also based on archives from newspapers, magazines, and television to compose the discursive memory of the case. The findings indicate that the silencing surrounding Leila’s situation, as well as her erasure from the media, may have amplified the trauma she experienced.
