| Resumo: | A fobia social (FS) é caracterizado por medo ou ansiedade excessiva diante de situações de interação social ou desempenho. Apesar desse distúrbio ser muitas das vezes subdiagnosticado e sub-reconhecido por profissionais de saúde, ele interfere de forma negativa na vida do sujeito. Nos estudantes universitários a FS pode prejudicar o rendimento acadêmico e influenciar para a evasão escolar. O trabalho objetivou investigar a prevalência da FS em graduandos dos 1° e 8° períodos do curso de Direito de instituições de ensino superior do município de Juiz de Fora. A amostra foi composta por 522 alunos, maiores de 18 anos, que responderam aos seguintes instrumentos: questionário sociodemográfico; Teste para Identificação de Problemas relacionados ao Uso de Álcool (AUDIT); o Inventário de Ansiedade de Beck (BAI) e Inventário de Ansiedade e Fobia Social (SPAI). Os resultados analisados pelo SPAI indicaram que 21,1% obtiveram uma possível e provável fobia social. Verificou-se também que a FS e os sintomas de ansiedade foram significativamente maior entre o sexo masculino que o feminino. A constatação desses dados fornece uma compreensão desse transtorno nesta população específica – estudante de Direito – sugerindo a identificação precoce do TAS. |
| Abstract: | Social phobia (SP) is characterized by an excessive anxiety or fear in situations of social interaction or performance. Although this disorder is often under diagnosed and under recognized by health professionals, it interferes negatively in the subject's life. College students with SP can impair academic performance and influence for truancy. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of FS in the first undergraduates and 8th periods of law school of higher education institutions in the city of Juiz de Fora. The sample was consisted of 522 students, older than 18 years, who responded to the following instruments: sociodemographic questionnaire, Alcohol Use Disease Identifying Test (AUDIT), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Social Phobia Anxiety Inventory (SPAI). The results analyzed by SPAI indicated that 21.1% had a possible and probable social phobia. It was also found that the SP and anxiety symptoms were significantly higher among males than females. The verification of these data provides an understanding of this disorder in this specific population - law student - suggesting the early identification of SAD. |
