O segredo das mulheres: relato de mulheres indígenas na cidade

Abstract

With the advance of ethnic-racial debates and the apparent intensification of territorial disputes, both in the countryside and in the city, it is necessary to understand how indigenous modernities (Cusicanqui, 2010) are configured in Brazil. In this scenario, indigenous literature in alphabetic script has emerged as an expression of new identities, as well as an important tool for maintaining cultures, especially for indigenous people living in urban areas. The indigenous literary field has its own characteristics and is directly linked to the territorial realities of indigenous peoples. The relationship between literature and territory is inseparable in our analysis. In addition to the issue of territory, another characteristic identified by the bibliographical survey carried out in this research is a possible gender parity in the indigenous literary field. However, the number of female writers is not proportionally expressed in the stages of dissemination and distribution of their works in relation to those of men. Therefore, an analysis of the field that takes gender issues into account is considered necessary, given that the field is made up almost entirely of women. Gender analysis could only be carried out after investigating this production as a social field (Bourdieu, 1996). With this in mind, we started with a panoramic analysis of the field and worked our way up to a critique of personal accounts written by women. Literature written by indigenous women highlights all the characteristics of the field, as well as being able to relate it to the historical, political and social processes that intersect the indigenous population. So, as a way of highlighting the distinctive features of this literature, we analyzed the stories contained in the book Guerreiras: mulheres indígenas na cidade, mulheres indígenas da aldeia (Warriors: indigenous women in the city, indigenous women in the village) (2018), by Aline Rochedo Pachamama.
