A constituição do movimento negro em Juiz de Fora/MG (1978-2010): dos processos de consciência às organizações coletivas por direitos

Abstract

The present work seeks to analyze the constitution of the black social movement's history in Juiz de Fora, MG during the 1978-2010s. This context marks the first generation of the black movement organized by a political-social bias, which began the racialization process of the city's social hierarchies. By following the activities and reconstructing their social history, we want to understand the processes of racial awareness among the individuals who built the movement. In this sense, we will focus on one of the characteristics of the black movement in Juiz de Fora, which emerged with/from other social movements, notably neighborhood, church, workers, and political party movements. Developing a study on the political and democratization history of the city of Juiz de Fora necessarily involves addressing the contributions of the local black movement.Through the Oral History methodology, we gathered and analyzed interviews with the movement leaders in order to capture each experience that led individuals to collectively organize themselves in the fight for rights.
