| Resumo: | A beleza do sorriso se manifesta sob forma de harmonia na dependência da interrelação de inúmeros fatores tais quais o tamanho, a forma e a posição, da gengiva e dos lábios. O excesso de exposição gengival, denominado de sorriso gengival, cria uma desarmonia no conjunto, podendo, inclusive, afetar a autoestima e as relações sociais. A finalidade desse trabalho foi revisar a literatura científica correlata à utilização da toxina botulínica no tratamento do sorriso gengival. Nesse âmbito, a revisão da literatura pertinente permitiu concluir que a abordagem com toxina botulínica é a primeira alternativa a ser considerada, por ser um método seguro, menos invasivo, mais aceito e por apresentar resultados positivos no tratamento do sorriso gengival. |
| Abstract: | The beauty of the smile manifests itself in the form of harmony, depending on the interrelation of several factors, such as the size, shape and position of the gums and lips. Excess gingival exposure, called gummy smile, creates disharmony in the whole, and can even affect self-esteem and social relations. The purpose of this study was to review the scientific literature related to the use of botulinum toxin in the treatment of gummy smile. In this scope, the review of the pertinent literature allowed us to conclude that the approach with botulinum toxin is the first alternative to be considered, as it is a safe, less invasive, and more accepted method, with positive results in the treatment of the gummy smile. |
