Clareamento de dentes tratados endodonticamente: relato de caso

Abstract

Desiring to achieve current beauty standards, greater emphasis is being placed on teeth whitening, considered to be a conservative and aesthetic procedure in the treatment of non-vital and darkened teeth, which allows the preservation of dental structure, at a low cost, especially when compared to the most invasive procedures. Therefore, the present study aimed to present an endogenous whitening protocol in a patient with coronal darkening in an endodontically treated tooth. Patients with dental dimming on tooth 21, after anamnesis and clinical and radiographic examination, started tooth whitening. Color registration, tooth cleaning, followed by coronal opening and cervical barrier preparation were done. The whitening paste, composed by sodium perborate and 30% hydrogen peroxide, was inserted into the cavity and the provisional sealing was carried out for seven days. After the desired color was obtained, the tooth was neutralized with calcium hydroxide for seven days and then definitive restoration with composite resin was resumed. As a result the tooth reached a color of the homologous teeth and presents absence of cervical reabsorption, during a two-year period of observations. Furthermore, it was concluded that the endogenous whitening, according to the applied protocol, provides satisfactory results, regarding aesthetics and safety against possible damages to the root structure.
