O setor de saúde de Minas Gerais: uma análise insumo-produto

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the performance of the health sector in Minas Gerais during the year of 2015 through analysis based on the input-output matrix model, in hopes to identify its’ returns to the state, identify which regions stood out economically and to contribute to the literature on Health Economics with the utilization of the input-output matrix. To this end, the location measurements, multipliers and forward and backwards Rasmussen-Hirschman indices were calculated and analyzed utilizing the Inter regional Input-Output Matrix developed by Haddad et al. (2020) for the variables of labour, income and, in the case of the multipliers, production. The results obtained from the indicators identified that, although the health sector wasn’t a key sector in the observed regions during 2015, it has great potential for future returns on investment, mainly in the region of Belo Horizonte, which obtained the highest gross multiplier values and presented regional characteristics that assisted in the sector’s performance in terms of labour and income. In general, the health sector presented potential for growth inside the region and given the results, may become a key sector of the region in the future.
