A filosofia política de Edith Stein

Abstract

This work seeks to understand the theme of Social and Political Philosophy in the work of the outstanding student of Husserl and “daughter” of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross, Edith Stein. In this sense, it begins with the study of her first published works: On the problem of empathy (1917) and Philosophy of Psychology and the Humanities (1922), in which, through the phenomenological method, the foundations of a Political Philosophy are laid, insofar as the phenomena of the human being, the intersubjective relationship, psychic causality and possible forms of social groupings are analyzed. In the sequence, the Social and Political Ontology present in his most relevant work for Political Philosophy: An Investigation Concerning the State (1925) is presented. And, finally, through the thematic cut of its peculiar way of resistance to the National Socialist Regime, it is investigated, in interface with Sociology, Psychology and Mystic, the theme of Politics in the mature phase of Stein's thought, which corresponds to the period that followed her Christian conversion.
