Quem fala a língua de acolhimento? Um estudo sobre refúgio e decolonialidade

Abstract

The present research, by means of qualitative approach, discusses the linguistic perspective involved in the social phenomenon of refuge and hosting of forced migrants, also named refugees, in Brazil seeking to observe and analyze how it is comprehended by hosting institutions. It is well known that Brazil has been receiving a great amount of people who are included in this political category, having, only in 2018, formalized more than a thousand refuge applications and permitted humanitarian visas to migrants coming from countries in severe economic crisis or under natural catastrophes. This paper presents different views of hosting; rethinks the concept of language and its relation with refuge, bringing up questions about possible labeling and plastered actions present in the linguistic and social hosting in Brazil. In this way, new possibilities are sought to provide the forcedly displaced people with a greater option of social mobility based on the manifestation of a hosting that promotes social justice. It is intended to propose a decolonial approach to refuge, combining it to the concepts of translingual practices, a matter of social justice and language, and Spracherleben, the lived experience of language. This work is divided into five chapters, namely: 1) Introduction; 2) Searching for theories to support linguistic studies on refuge; 3) Research methodology; 4) Data analysis; and 5) Final considerations. Seeking to understand the idea that the host has of what he calls hosting, our corpus is formed by texts published by an official hosting agency in Brazil and official online newspaper reports, investigating the maintenance (or not) of colonial practices, as well as the understanding of the link between linguistic practices and hosting.
