Se essa rua fosse minha: uma análise psicossocial das experiências de humilhação e vergonha no itinerário da população em situação de rua

Abstract

This dissertation weaves the movements of a qualitative research which objective was to understand the experiences of humiliation and shame experienced by the Population in Street Situation (PSS) in the itinerary through the city of Juiz de Fora (MG), analyzing the impact that such experiences generate in circulation of this segment in the process of inhabiting the city. The PSS phenomenon is old in its historicity of (in) visibilities in the most diverse contexts, and it only recently got the attention of the Brazilian State through the National Policy for the Homeless Population in 2009. The experiences of humiliation and shame arise bypassing the PSR's itineraries and are intrinsically linked to the violence produced by the various social actors who work with that group. Therefore, there is a strong national culture that perpetuates the feeling of segregation and repression of these people, a situation that materializes in violent actions and generates significant impacts on the life of the PSS. This is a qualitative research in which three techniques were used to construct the data, namely: participant observation, the logbook and semi-structured interviews. Altogether, nine interviews were carried out and all participants were accessed during the circulation through the field, which, a priori, did not establish a delimited physical space, only reproducing the family paths taken by the aforementioned population. The results indicate that the street is not only part of a geographic cut, but also a place of struggle, resistance and production of life. In this direction, the experiences of humiliation and shame are manifested through the violence suffered daily, producing and fixing places of subordination on the social plane. The balance of these situations is also expressed in the formation of artificial itineraries covered by PSS in the city, largely mediated by the need to access basic services. The findings show the contradictions that exist in living on the streets, sometimes expressed by the PSS as welcoming and libertarian, sometimes as something that undermines living, loneliness and humiliation. The results also indicate that the experiences related to the precarious insertion in the world of work, the use of drugs and the different survival strategies adopted by the aforementioned population are also part of this complex scenario and make up these circulations.
