Abstract

Environmental education is guaranteed in the Federal Constitution and must be present in all stages and modalities of the educational process. Among the various possible themes, in order to build an efficient educational action, it is necessary to understand the needs that permeate the student's reality and that is relevant on the local scale. For this reason, the theme chosen in this work is related to the environmental quality of the urban environment, which includes causes related to abandoned animals and the consequences of abandonment. The abandonment of pets on the streets is not only harmful to animal welfare, it is also harmful to the economy, health and ecology of the cities. Based on the premise that environmental education is a crosscutting theme, the proposal is to develop a didactic sequence that works with the curricular skills related to zoology, foreseen in the Biology curriculum of the 2nd year of high school, and that promotes environmental education in its broadest sense, aiming the integration, contextualization, socialization and training of conscientious citizens. The didactic sequence was developed using research teaching activities, prioritizing the student to be the protagonist of the whole process, with the teacher being the facilitating agent. The surveys discussed in the work allowed the adaptation of the didactic sequence in a final product in accordance with content, cognitive and socioemotional skills that are present at National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) for development in high school students, with this final product available for application in other teaching units.
