Elipses e volutas: a escritura oblíqua das imagens de Arlindo Daibert

Abstract

The present dissertation establishes a reading between Arlindo Daibert’s work and Baroque as a comprehensive concept. The language of Daibert’s work combines drawing, literature, painting, collages, in an articulated discourse in which the construction of meanings is similar to the assembling of a puzzle that offers pieces and reveals itself as a strong and convincing text. His work intends to discuss several subjective open aspects through which we insert the investigation of themes such as the game, the simulacrum, the unfinished, the awareness of imperfection, death, eroticism and the sacred as elements that withdrew the Baroque aesthetic from the Renaissance, but at the same time coexisted with mannerism and survived through time in Europe, landing in the Americas. This moving to the New World implied additions and the creation of the concept of the Baroque of Minas Gerais, a source from which our modernists drank when searching for the origin of our art in Baroque. Arlindo Daibert, as an heir to this chain of artists, intertwines Plastic Art and literature in a spiraling course to infinity.
